ING may not have the highest rate right now, but their focus on security and customer service still puts them at the top for me. The $25 bonus just makes it just that much better!!!

#19619 EmigrantDirect now 2 star rating at Bankrate.com

Posted by ABOUTBENS on 11 July 2006 - 03:16 AM in General

ED dropped from a 3 star to a 2 star rating, which is "below industry average" in their financial standing. Of course they are FDIC insured, but it makes you wonder a little. I've also seen talk on other websites that customers are linking their spam email to ED.

#19567 Problem with no e-statements and payroll direct deposit

Posted by ABOUTBENS on 02 July 2006 - 01:19 AM in General

The past few days I've been looking at the pros and cons of all my banking accounts. Something struck me that I've never really noticed before. My wife and I both have our payroll directly depostited into our Capital One Money Market accout. Since Capital One doesn't offer e-statements, we get our statement in the mail each month. The bad thing is the transaction shows our employer's name AND both of our social security numbers. Along with other info on the statement, someone could have a pretty good start at identity theft if they got ahold of it. I've now decided that I will only do payroll direct deposit if I have e-statements with my bank (such as ING, Emigrant Direct, etc.). Not sure if I'm being paranoid, but I think it's something to consider.

#19557 Capital One 4.75% High Yield MM/Savings

Posted by ABOUTBENS on 30 June 2006 - 09:07 PM in General

I've had both the Money Market and Savings account with Capital One for over a year and have been very happy with them. Only bad thing is no sign up bonus that I'm aware of.

#17973 Is better login security worth spent time?

Posted by ABOUTBENS on 19 October 2005 - 07:47 PM in General

It may not be "necessary," but I voted yes because it could be worth the time spent. It's really only a few seconds more to login with an additional security measure, so why not do it? Would we rather vote for "fewer" security measures in place? A lot of people (including my sister and mother) are still to fearful of banking online. I try to convice them that it is "safe," but haven't gotten them to try it yet. If additional measures were in place, people like my sister and mom might be more likely to try online banking. Or maybe not, but I still don't think spending a few more seconds to login to my accounts is a depravation of my time.

#17970 The best time for bank bonuses....

Posted by ABOUTBENS on 19 October 2005 - 07:29 PM in General bank bonus discussion

How many 1099's do you think you'll have by the end of this year? This is the first year I've signed up for accounts just to get a bonus, and I'm wondering if it's confusing to have a bunch of 1099's for taxes. In spite of that, I say keep them coming! rolleyes.gif

#17953 How can we join to get ING to raise their rate?

Posted by ABOUTBENS on 18 October 2005 - 09:10 PM in General

cool.gif Any ideas how the readers with ING accounts could join together to pressure ING to raise their rates? Maybe an advanced email saying on such and such date we are going to transfer all of our money out of ING if the rates don't go up, and then do it if the rates haven't gone up by then. I don't know, but there can be power in numbers. cool.gif cool.gif cool.gif cool.gif cool.gif

#17952 Capital One Savings & Money Market =Good Deal!

Posted by ABOUTBENS on 18 October 2005 - 09:03 PM in General

biggrin.gif Just FYI-
I have been very happy with my Capital One Savings and Money Market accounts! It's very easy to use online and the ACH transfers seem to be quicker than some of my other accounts. I have 4 external links set up right now, and all transactions have gone great. I recently set up my car loan, house payment, and student loan to be auto debited from my savings account. Since these are generally my 3 biggest monthly payments, I just leave a small amount in my regular checking and earn a good interest rate on my savings account (currently 3.75%). The only complaint I have is that you cannot "internally" link your savings and money market accouts, you have to do an "external" link like all the other accounts (it's therefore not an immediate transfer). Otherwise, I have been very happy with them and would highly recommend them to anyone. Side note- I was attracted to Capital One because I purchased my car with their "blank check" program, and was extremely pleased with it! If you're considering a vehicle purchase, new or used, it's worth checking out their website for info on this! biggrin.gif

#8820 ING 5/1 ARM 5.90% APR, $555 Closing Costs

Posted by ABOUTBENS on 24 September 2005 - 02:41 PM in Online banks

For comparison sake, ING included a flyer with APR's of some other lenders for the same type of loan (source: bank sites as of 9/9/05):
Countrywide 6.335%
ETrade 6.210%
Bank of America 6.144%
E-Loan 6.321%
Obviously the larger your mortgage the bigger the difference the 5.900% would save you. I've purchased two homes with the closing costs being $2000 or more, so the flat fee of $555 for closing costs seems to be a good deal as well.

#8811 Would you apply for and fund a mortgage online?

Just curious to see how people feel about applying for and funding a mortgage online. biggrin.gif

#8810 Anyone converted US bonds from paper to electronic

I have a few bonds and I was thinking about doing this, just wondering if anyone else has done this yet. Thanks. biggrin.gif

#8809 ING 5/1 ARM 5.90% APR, $555 Closing Costs

Posted by ABOUTBENS on 23 September 2005 - 07:26 PM in Online banks

ING sent me a pre-approval letter for the above stated mortgage terms. You have to be a customer for the flat $555 closing costs and apply and commit by 10/31/05. They also have a "lowest rate promise" where your rate is guaranteed for 90 days on a home purchase. biggrin.gif

#8808 NetBank $75 Bonus is the real deal!

Posted by ABOUTBENS on 23 September 2005 - 07:18 PM in Online banks

smile.gif I opened both a checking and money market account in my name, and both a checking and money market account for my wife. 4 accounts with a $75 Bonus on each is a quick $300!!! I maintained the required balance for a month and got the $75 Bonus in all 4 accounts. It was very easy. Careful though, if you close the account within 6 months of opening they charge you a $25 fee. But the min. balance requirement after the Bonus is not bad--$50 for the checking and $500 for the money market (500 and 1500 to get the Bonus). They also send nice checks with checkbook covers. biggrin.gif

#8807 ING up to 3.40%, Capital One at 3.45???

Posted by ABOUTBENS on 23 September 2005 - 07:07 PM in Online banks

Although I like banking with ING, I'm not very impressed with their response to Emigant going to 4.00%. Still waiting to see what, if anything, Capital One is going to do. wink.gif

#8805 EmigrantDirect 4%, Any Bonus???

Posted by ABOUTBENS on 23 September 2005 - 06:48 PM in Online banks

Since EmigrantDirect has increased their rate to 4% I'm looking to open an account with them. I've been searching a lot of websites and can only find one Bonus opportunity. The guy running "MyMoneyBlog.Com" says he gets $20 from EmigrantDirect for each referral from a link on his website. He says if you follow his instructions he will in turn pay you $10 through PayPal, or send an Amazon gc. This is the only Bonus opportunity I can find for EmigrantDirect. Does anyone know of another opportunity. Thanks. rolleyes.gif

#8651 "Presidential" Bush's Patriot Act

Posted by ABOUTBENS on 30 August 2005 - 12:59 AM in General

sad.gif I applied for Presidential's 3.75% checking account online and got a reply in the mail yesterday that they needed more info to open it. The problem is that I have recently moved and so my address on my drivers license is now different. Presidential said my DL had to match my current address before they would open an account, due to the Patriot Act. I have opened accounts with Capitol One, ING, and NetBank without this problem. That's b/c they ask you if your address is different than what is on your DL and give you a place to enter it if it is. I guess it's not really a big deal and I really should update my DL, but it is frustrating that they were the only bank without a way to get around this.

Who offers the best overall banking experience?

#8646 ACH transfers take 8 days to complete at Netbank

Posted by ABOUTBENS on 30 August 2005 - 12:14 AM in Online banks

wink.gif I have NetBank accounts and have noticed the delayed transfer as well. I mainly signed up with them to get the $75 Bonus, and I will probably close the accounts once my accounts have been open 6 months and I get the bonus. wink.gif

#8547 presidential bank

Posted by ABOUTBENS on 13 August 2005 - 08:05 PM in General

QUOTE(stubrett @ Aug 12 2005, 11:13 AM)
Presidential has just raise its APY from 3.75% to 3.87% for its premier savings account.  There is a min. of $5000 to open the account, and the rate is good for up to $35,000.  Anything above the $35,000 is at 2.62% APY

Their checking account is now at 3.75% APY with direct deposit

Have you had direct experience with this bank? Is the online sign-up easy, and the customer service afterwards good? smile.gif

#8546 Presidential--Good or Bad???

Posted by ABOUTBENS on 13 August 2005 - 07:59 PM in General

blink.gif I'm thinking about opening a checking account with Presidential to get the awesome rate. Can anyone tell me about their experiences with this bank, either good or bad. Thanks. biggrin.gif

#8540 4.75% 5 YR CD AT ING DIRECT, NO MIN.

Posted by ABOUTBENS on 12 August 2005 - 06:55 PM in CD rates

smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif
4.75% 5 YR CD AT ING DIRECT, NO MIN. I recently opened a savings account with ING and got the $25 Bonus. The account was easy to set up online, and I like the way their web page is set up. 4.75% is a good deal right now. Does anyone know of a higher rate at another bank:
