Below is a recipe how you can maximize your cashback and get a $100 gift card for Best Buy and other stores using American Express Hilton HHonors Platinum Credit Card.


Step 1.
Apply for the card, get approved and make the first purchase. You are supposed to gert 10,000 Hilton HHonors bonus points at this point. If you do not want to do proceed further, you can exchange the points for one free night in a Hilton Hotel (see more details here)

Step 2A.
Spend $2500 within the next 5 months. You will receive 7500 bonus points + 7500 regular points. At this point, you will have 25000 points that you can exchange for a $50 gift card (e.g for Foot Locker, etc) if you do not want to proceed further.

OR


Step 2B.
Spend $5000 within the next 5 months. You will receive 15000 bonus points + 15000 regular points..

Step 3.
Spend additionally $3334 to get 10,000 regular points. You can do this within the initial 5-month promo period in addition to spending $5000 (your total spending would be $8334 within the 5-month period). Or you could this after the initial 5-month promo period. When you get 50000 points in total

10000 sign-up points + 15000 bonus points + 15000 regular points + 10000 regular points

you could exchange them for a $100 gift card for Best Buy and other stores (see here).





Here are some relevant terms from the card application page:

1) To be eligible to receive 10,000 HHonors bonus points, you must make your first eligible purchase with the Hilton HHonors Platinum Credit Card within one year of Card approval. Bonus points are for first-time Cardmembers only.
2) For each of your first four stays, earn 2,500 HHonors bonus points awarded only for qualified stays at participating Hilton Family hotels. You must pay for the stay with your Hilton HHonors Platinum Credit Card.
3) You will earn 5 HHonors bonus points for each eligible dollar spent on the Hilton HHonors Platinum Credit Card from American Express for a qualified stay at a participating Hilton Family hotel. You will also receive 5 HHonors bonus points per eligible dollar at qualifying U.S. supermarkets, drugstores, and gas stations that are not departments of superstores or warehouse clubs, and at U.S. restaurants, the U.S. Postal Service, and for wireless phone services.
4) You must use your Hilton HHonors Platinum Credit Card to complete $5,000 of eligible spending by the end of your first five months of Cardmembership, based on the date of your Card approval. 15,000 HHonors points will be credited to your account 8 to 12 weeks after you reach the spend threshold.

I Hilton HHonors bonus points required for a free night range between 7,500 HHonors bonus points for an Opportunity Category hotel and 40,000 HHonors bonus points for a Category 6 hotel. 7,500 HHonors bonus points are enough for a free reward night at an Opportunity Category hotel.
