I wake up yesterday morning and check my bank acct. -$27! WTF? Where is our $50 deposit from the day before? So I call dh and have him call to find out. Meanwhile I transferred over enough to to run my errands and put gas in my car and am on my merry way and think nothing else of it. Fast forward to dh coming home from work. He checks the bank acct to make sure there is enough money for him to get gas on his way home. -$200 or so. All the money I just spent bounced because they had charged us over draft fees from earlier. $165 in overdraft fees. I call dh and he said, ya he already talked to them. Apparently they "lost" our deposit from the day before. They looked at the video from the day before and even see him at the ATM and see him deposit the envelope. And you know what they said to him? :Well we don't know if you actually put money in the envelope". Gah!!! So then they say they are looking into it. If they can't find the money then we are out all the other money. So basically summed up they said "We lost your money and if we can't find it tough cookies you get to pay us more money because we lost it". To top it all off, ours isn't the only money they lost. So what, they're saying every one of us is lying about putting money in the ATM and actually put in empty envelopes? I just don't understand. How can a BANK tell us they lost our money and then tell us tough?

Wow - I can't believe that the bank said that to you. What happened to customer service? The fact that they told you they didn't have to believe you is crazy - you don't tell the customer that EVER. I hope they work this out for you. You'd think that other people losing their money would give them a clue....I sure hope no one stole the money!

was the money deposited as cash or by check? I am guessing cash otherwise this would not be an issue. When depositing cash, (I cannot remember when I have done such os thing), I always speak to a teller and get the receipt etc (or especially when I pay school taxes at a bank - a teller is going down with me). I never put cash into an envelop, you don't know who might open it.

no doubt, always get a receipt when you deposit money, even if it is 5 bucks!
