Virtual Bank increases the rate of its Money Market account to 4.60%

Did anyone expect 4.60% from VB? At best I had thought 4.00%. They had lagged for so many months, I had thought they had given up being even close to the leading MMA rate.
Perhaps everyone is learning from what EmigrantDirect did last September in that you get more publicity when you make one big jump rather than several small rate jumps.
VB also raised their CD rates. The 1-year CD is now 5.10% APY.

I did not. I thought VB will be just another ING Direct / CNBT case.

Never used them before as putting my money in a "virtual" seemed strange. Found they are the online part of Lydian Private Bank out of FL. Safe an Sound rating of 3* and about $1.5 Billion in size. Going to take advantage of their 5.10% CD. Seems like one of the best rates for an easy to open online account.

wow yea thats really suprising, last time i checked a few weeks ago they were even below ing, so i forgot about them for a while, glad to see they are catching up though

there is a small print saying that this rate - 4.6%- is for balances under 10.000.
does anyone know what is the rate for over $10K?

Not sure where you are reading that but they show 4.60 from $100 to $100,000+
Under $10,000.00 4.50% 4.60% $100 Min
$10,000.00 - $24,999.99 4.50% 4.60%
$25,000.00 - $49,999.99 4.50% 4.60%
$50,000.00 - $99,999.99 4.50% 4.60%
$100,000.00 and up 4.50% 4.60%
