I just recently "switched" banks. I say "switched" because the bank I came from I have a credit card with them, so I have to keep that account open in order to avoid paying an anual fee for that card. Both of these are local, brick and mortar banks. What is really frustrating is not being able to deposit money in one account and transfer money to the other account by ACH. I know there are online options for doing this, but it would be very frustrating to have to add another bank to the mix. My quesiton is why don't banks (especially local brick and mortar banks) offer free ACH transfers to their customers? The bank I am switching from obviously doesn't charge me for ACH payments I make from my account or when I transfer money from EmigrantDirect to that checking account (or vice-versa), but they don't have an option where I can transfer money (ACH) from their bank to another local bank. It is the same with the other bank as well.

Does anyone know of any good, online banks that would help solve this problem. I have heard of Ascensia (sp?). Does anyone know if they are a good bank to go with?

ascencia is a good bank, but they have a 3 buisness day wait before you can withdraw the money. another option you have is paypal. i use that all the time to transfer money around. a couple of other banks that offer this that are not mentioned on this site are state farm bank (you can't do them online, but you can call and have the ACH set up) and mwabank (only outgoing)
