Non-USA resident bank a/c, how to apply?

There are four banks in US I am aware of that are "non-resident friendly":
Citibank
HSBC USA
Chase
Everbank
I would contact customer service of each of them and ask (1) if they can open an account for a person outside US and (2) what documents they need.
I would start with Citibank. It has branches in Malaysia so it might be possible to do identity verification in Malaysia and transfer this information to Citibank USA.
