LINK Here's what makes no sense to me: Why would anyone want to buy a CD from Emigrant which pays 3.50% and ties up your money for 16 months if they could open a savings account which pays 4% and allows you to open an account today and close it a day later????

You are certain to lock in the 3.50% on the CD for 16 months. The 4% on the savings can drop significantly in the meantime. Some people just don't want to worry about the fluctuation of the rates.
