You can get up-to 5000 Megarewards during the first month of using Charter One bill pay if you have free checking account and are enrolled in the MegaRewards program. You can redeem 5000 points for a $45 Master Card gift card. You can redeem the rest for a gift (see rewards on the page http://www.charteron...ward_levels.asp ).

You can get up-to 1 point per dollar of a bill payment during the first month of the program enrollment (see the same link above). The program allows to earn up-to 5000 points per month (see more info on the page http://www.charteron...d_terms_gen.asp ).
You can make a bill payment of $5000 to your account in another bank to get the points (I would rather make five $1000 payments instead to avoid too much Charter One attention to these transactions).

Please note that Charter One charges $5 gift certificate fullfilment fee ( see info on this page http://www.charteron...ms_pointred.asp ). I do not know if this fee is charged for gift cards too.

The reward program seems to be free as long as you use bill payment ( read here http://www.charteron...ward_bonus.asp). Bill payment is free.
