I can recommend GMAC Bank to high-income customers because APY of its Insured Savings Account is among the highest APYs you can find in other banks.
I can not recommend GMAC to low-income customers because its "cheapest" checking account with ATM rebates (Premium Plan Relationship Account ) requires $2,500 minimum daily balance to avoid $7.5 monthly fee. Many online banks offer ATM rebates and free bill pay with much lower or no minimum balance requirement (State Farm Bank, Farm Bureau Bank, Charter One Bank, etc). GMAC Bank offers this account with no ACH transfers, email alerts, or e-bills. You can get better terms elsewhere. For example, the interest checking account of First Internet Bank of Indiana with only $500 minimum balance requirement gives you free bill payment, ACH-in transfers, e-bills, email alerts, and ATM rebates.
