#8527 Tips for cutting your foreign exchange losses

Posted by haha0550 on 11 August 2005 - 12:42 AM in General

My experience is to use the ATM debit card, to withdraw cash, never use credit card, now most of credit card charge a 3% fee on top of the exchange rate, which is not a good rate already. The ATM will garuntee you to lost the most is 1%. Fee is minor, let's say $3. with a withdraw of $800 per day, it is just at a 1% level. 3% charged by credit is not a good deal. Never think a 3% fee is nothing, it willl take almost a whole year for your money to earn that 3% and you lose it in one day????? Give me a break.

#8526 $250 and other bonuses - Netbank : CD, checking and money market accou...

Thank you for your post. It is a very good comment. I usually do not open a bank account just follow their ads. Too much work to trace. However, big banks usually give me good rewards. Citibank, is one of the good bank to take advantge. So so customer service, but very knowledgable, but on the other hand, you will be able to find a lot of way to reward yourself. Their database not smart at all. Fidelity is a good back/brokerage, good software. very good service. Bank of America, a good bank for daily banking needs. etrade bank, good customer service, easy to fool around. emigrant bank is still among the best yield in momey market savings. ING good is no hastle. but now not as good as emigrant in yield, disappionted.

#8492 Ihate that bank (Bank of America)

Posted by haha0550 on 06 August 2005 - 04:25 AM in General

First of all, you should never use credit for cash advance. It is nothing wrong they charge you $10 fee for that, and when you over the limit, they charge you again. all of those are right. The problem is you did not follow their rule. I have never had any problem with BAC. Actually I took a lot advantage with those big bank's offer. You should play smart and carefully with those banks. If you do so, you will feel so sweet and united states is really the best place for the consumer. Banks complete, you win.

#8415 mbna change in terms

Posted by haha0550 on 02 August 2005 - 02:30 AM in General discussion

MBNA is never a good credit card company for the customer. I never own any of their credit card. Those small player will always try to set a trap and hopefully you did not pay attention. I really hate their business approach. I think the best credit product is from those big money center banks, like citibank, chase. from time to time you may find good deal from discover or Amex. however, before you apply MBNA, make sure you see all their terms. I personally had very bad experience with them, none of their so called "promotional" offer is a real promotion. Don't get fooled.

#8245 Millennium Bank 8% CD

Posted by haha0550 on 12 July 2005 - 05:18 PM in CD rates

Thank you for your opinion. There are a lot of place i may have 8% returen, but none of them are garunteed for so long. I believe those private banking will have those better return. but this specific one really make me worry. I googled that bank did not get a lot research result and couple article is very negative. so I think i should avoid this kind of deal. by the way I saw your blog. Good stuff. Do you have more investment ideas?

Did anyone have experience with Millennium Bank advitised 8% CD ? I just talked to them, it is a foreign bank resides outside of United States. Not FDIC insured. Just wondering if it is a trick or even a trap. Please advise............

Like you said, it's an offshore bank and is NOT FDIC insured. I've never dealt with them before, but because of this you can't compare their 8% rate with other insured CDs. There are lots of places you can get 8% back on your money, all of which require more risk, such as with this bank. You can bet they can't just pay 8% interest to everyone without doing some risky things. If you are willing to take on more risk, I'd first look into the regulated bond/stock market.
